Sports Team Meal Delivery in Calgary
How It Started
In 1998, my culinary journey began in the classroom. Fresh out of university, I started teaching in a program for children with Autism, which emphasized daily living skills, including the preparation of nutritious meals. Collaborating with staff and parents, we launched a daily lunch program that encouraged children to try new healthy foods. Over the years, as Calgary sports teams have thrived, so did our initiative, with the program expanding into 16 classrooms throughout the City of Calgary. Today, the success of our team meal delivery program continues to support these children in exploring a variety of nutritious options.
Our Family
My husband and I are passionate about cooking and have embraced the challenge of preparing wholesome, homemade meals for our family of six, focusing on nutritious meals that keep us energized. We often dedicate our evenings and spare time to crafting specialty items such as homemade sausage and charcuterie. Every autumn, in addition to processing hundreds of pounds of tomatoes for pasta and pizza sauce, we pickle, ferment, and preserve a variety of vegetables and fruits, making everything from specialty jams to hot sauces, salsas, and various krauts. The kitchen is truly the heart of our home, where we prioritize these healthy options. This endeavour is a true labour of love. As dedicated supporters of our sons throughout their journey from Timbits to the WHL, we also cheer on our daughters as they pursue their ambitions in Alpine Ski racing. Our winter months are spent at the rink or in the mountains almost daily. When we are all together at home, nothing makes my heart happier than when we gather around the table for a delicious meal or enjoy our team meal delivery services after a long day. It’s these moments that bring us together as a family.
Game Day Meals
The concept for a service offering nutritious meals to Calgary sports teams originated from our experience preparing meals in improvised hotel kitchens using hot plates and crockpots during out-of-town events for our children's athletic competitions. Restaurants typically had long waits, disappointing food, small portions, and high prices.
Following an intensive weekend of competition, we observed that our children and their teammates were not feeling at their optimal level. Eat good, Sleep Good, Play Good! Quick healthy options were limited, and we needed to find a way for everyone on the team, not just our own children, to enjoy nutritious meals.
To ensure athletes had access to healthier, faster, and more affordable meals, we organized team meal delivery in rental houses. We served and delivered these meals to their hotel, or sometimes arranged for the bus to bring them to our rental, where we transformed the garage or another room into an inviting space for a homemade meal away from the usual routine. Coaches loved this option. Consuming nutritious meals while traveling contributes to improved outcomes.
Drawing on our experience catering larger gatherings and utilizing commercial kitchen equipment acquired through our previous participation in BBQ competitions, our transition to provide nutritious meals for Calgary sports teams was both practical and attainable. Significant investments had already been made, complemented by our established expertise. Game Day Meals was born!
